Hello there prospective student,

I’ve recently shifted from the University of Canterbury to the University of Melbourne and am still learning the ropes when it comes to taking on PhD students.

However, I think it goes something like this.

  1. You email me, send me your CV, tell me how awesome, intellectually diverse, numerically literate, and hardworking you are, and how you’d love to come live in one of Earth’s greatest cities and work on some of Earth’s greatest earth science problems at one of the top ranked universities in the world. Feel free to have a look at my recent research papers and use them to cast an idea to me, or just bring along a new problem!
  2. If we collectively agree that applying to UoM is a good idea, then you go here to submit an online course application.
  3. Once you receive confirmation that your online course application is submitted, you can log in with your application ID and password to apply for scholarships. International students please note that you are automatically considered for scholarships and will not need to complete a separate application (unless you are eligible for the Human Rights Scholarship which requires a separate application).
  4. If you are an Aussie or Kiwi you are eligible for this scholarship, so apply!
  5. We wait and hope, achieve success, finalize your project, and away we go.

Simple eh?

Good luck!

Mark
